Dead Ideas is a podcast for great ideas that someone, somewhere, for some reason said no to. And I gotta tell ya, the creative graveyard is absolutely FULL.

Each week I'll interview a creative director or marketing professional and we'll talk about an idea they're still mourning. An idea that was ahead of its time, or was too big, too expensive, maybe not big enough; whatever the reason, it was shot down, killed, dead and buried. Someone said no.

But just because an idea is dead doesn't mean it's not great. We'll walk through how they originally came up with it, why it felt special, and reconsider how they could have kept it alive.

New episodes will release weekly and you can enjoy them on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, iHeartRadio, and Amazon.

WHY DOES THIS PODCAST EXIST?

Half therapy, half education. Every creative person and marketer has at least one idea that died. After pouring your sweat and tears into an idea, it can be legitimately traumatic and difficult to get over. Sometimes just talking about it, especially after it’s long dead and buried, can be helpful.

Talking through how these ideas came to life in the first place is great education for those looking to improve their creative or break into the business. Each episodes looks back with the benefit of hindsight and essentially re-pitches the idea. We could also use some more help selling our ideas.

Who is the host?

Dead Ideas is hosted by Greg Shumchenia who has spent about two decades coming up with ideas — many of them now dead. He’s always looking for a little creative therapy and trying to sharpen his craft and figured some others would benefit from the same.

He’s had ideas killed by Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Hidden Valley Ranch, Mailchimp, New Balance, Harry’s, The Ritz-Carlton, Frank’s RedHot, Red Lobster, Otis Spunkmeyer, Checkers & Rally’s, The City of Atlanta, Kingsford, Brita, Smirnoff, Dr. Scholl’s, Subway, and Reese’s.
